A new partnership between Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and North Cascades National Park is enabling the Methow Valley Ranger District (24 West Chewuch Road, Winthrop, 509-996-4000) to be open daily 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 26 through September 12. These additional hours will provide visitors with access to forest and park information and backcountry permits in Winthrop on weekends for the first time since the Methow Valley Visitor Center closed in 2007.
The Methow Valley Ranger District is currently open weekdays and staffed by U.S. Forest Service employees. This staff will be joined by National Park Service employees on weekends, allowing the station to be open daily during this summer’s recreation season.
“We are delighted to collaborate with the U.S. Forest Service to respond to requests for visitor information on weekends in Winthrop – a popular eastern gateway to public land in the North Cascades,” said Chip Jenkins, North Cascades National Park Superintendent.
“The addition of National Park Service employees will improve our ability to provide timely and specific information to visitors seeking fun in their public lands,” said Michael Liu, District Ranger. “Stop by and talk with one of the friendly employees to learn about trail and road conditions, boating and fishing opportunities, and educational programs and activities available in your forest and park this summer.”
